SET FOR 2008 HALL OF FAME WEEKEND
Duo will sign copies of their new book, My View From The Corner - A Life In Boxing,
during Hall of Fame Weekend June 5-8th
CANASTOTA, NY - APRIL 2008 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced today legendary trainer of champions Angelo Dundee and Hall of Fame writer / historian Bert Sugar will attend festivities planned for the 19th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Weekend set for June 5-8th.
Both Hall of Famers will be autographing copies of Dundee's new biography,My View From The Corner - A Life In Boxing throughout the weekend festivities. The book, written by Dundee and Sugar, features memorable stories from Dundee's half-century career in the sport of boxing.
“Angelo and Bert are two of the most popular figures in boxing,” said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. “The new book is a fantastic read and it will be great for fans to have the opportunity to get a copy and meet two Hall of Famers.”
Dundee has guided 15 world champions including Hall of Famers Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, George Foreman, Sugar Ramos, Jose Napoles, Luis Rodriguez, Willie Pastrano and Canastota's Carmen Basilio. He also prepared Academy Award-winning actor Russell Crowe for his role in the 2005 boxing film Cinderella Man. In 1992 Dundee was elected into the Boxing Hall of Fame.
Sugar is one of the most recognizable figures in boxing. With his trademark fedora and cigar, “The Hat” has been a fixture at ringside over the past 30 years. By the early 1970s, Sugar pursued his passion for boxing and writing and became editor of Boxing Illustrated. From 1977-1984 he served as editor-in-chief of The Ring and in the early 1990s founded Fight Game magazine. A prolific writer, Sugar has penned over 80 books, including Sting Like a Bee, Inside Boxing, and The 100 Greatest Boxers of All Time. His articles have appeared in noted publications including Sports Illustrated, Sports Business Journal, and The New Yorker.
The June 5-8th Hall of Fame Induction Weekend will feature over 20 exciting events including a banquet, parade, boxing autograph card show, cocktail party, and the Official Induction Ceremony honoring the Class of 2008. Living inductees to be honored at the Official Induction Ceremony on Sunday, June 8th are heavyweight champion Larry Holmes, junior welterweight champion Eddie Perkins, promoters Mogens Palle and Frank Warren and journalists Dave Anderson and Joe Koizumi. Posthumous inductees will also be honored.
Over 50 boxing stars are scheduled to participate in weekend festivities.
