LEGENDARY TRAINER ANGELO DUNDEE
TO ATTEND HALL OF FAME WEEKEND
Hall of Fame Weekend June 7-10th
CANASTOTA, NY - APRIL 2007 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced today legendary trainer of champions Angelo Dundee will attend festivities planned for the 18th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Weekend set for June 7-10th.
“Angelo Dundee has trained some of boxing's best fighters,” said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. “His knowledge of the many facets of boxing is remarkable and fans always love the opportunity to visit with him.”
Dundee has guided 15 world champions including Hall of Famers Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, George Foreman, Sugar Ramos, Jose Napoles, Luis Rodriguez, Willie Pastrano and Canastota's Carmen Basilio. He also prepared Academy Award-winning actor Russell Crowe for his role in the 2005 boxing film “Cinderella Man.” In 1992 Dundee was elected into the Boxing Hall of Fame.
The June 7-10th Hall of Fame Induction Weekend will feature over 20 exciting events including a banquet, parade, boxing autograph card show, cocktail party, and the Official Induction Ceremony honoring the Class of 2007. Living inductees to be honored at the Official Induction Ceremony on Sunday, June 10th are four-division world champions Roberto “Hands of Stone” Duran and Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker, two-division champion Ricardo “Finito” Lopez, trainer Amilcar Brusa, administrator Jose Sulaiman and artist LeRoy Neiman. Posthumous inductees will also be honored.
Over 50 boxing stars, including Ken Norton, Emile Griffith, Alexis Arguello, Gene Fullmer, Jose Torres, Micky Ward, Iran Barkley, and Canastota's Carmen Basilio are scheduled to participate in weekend festivities.
