A 15-minute drive to the east is the Turning Stone Resort and Casino. The resort, which features 120,000 square feet of gaming space, is owned and operated by the Oneida Indian Nation. The resort offers world-class golf, gaming, entertainment and accommodations.

Accommodations include The Lodge at Turning Stone, The Hotel at Turning Stone, The Inn at Turning Stone, and The Villages at Turning Stone RV Park.

Amenities include fitness facilities, Salon at Turning Stone and The Spa at Turning Stone which features a heated indoor swimming pool, sauna and message rooms.

Gaming includes poker, bingo, keno, and over 2000 Instant Multi-Games (cashless version of traditional slots). Blackjack, craps, and roulette are among table games offered.

A variety of eateries including the Forest Grill (steakhouse), Garden Buffet, The Emerald, Delta Café, Opal's Confectionery and the Stone Roast Coffee Co. make for a varied dining experience.

The Showroom at Turning Stone seats 800 and features state-of-the-art light and sound systems. The Event Center at Turning Stone is scheduled to open in late 2004 and will feature a nearly 30,000 square foot main floor capable of hosting a variety of events, including boxing and concerts with seating up to 5,000.

Chittenango Falls State Park with picturesque Chittenango Falls is just a 15-minute car ride away. The 167-foot falls, which is considerably taller than Niagara Falls, is the main attraction in the 192-acre state-run park. Less than a half-hour away is the Sylvan-Verona Beach Resort Area at Oneida Lake. This sprawling recreation area has natural sand beaches for swimming and sunbathing, an amusement park with picnic areas, and more than 1,000 campsites, as well as motels and lodges. Oneida Indian Nation's Shako:wi Cultural Center is less than a 10 minute ride from Canastota. The Oneidas, who were once members of the Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy, are perhaps the only Indian Nation in the United States who have been able to succeed commercially, progress economically, and gain back self-sufficiency while retaining the cultural identity and traditional ways that have characterized their ancestors since time immemorial. The Center is located 2.5 miles south of Oneida on Rte 46. It is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to -5 p.m. Call (315) 363-1424.

Casolwood Golf Club is less than five minutes from the IBHOF. The 18-hole course, which is the home of the IBHOF's annual Tournament of Champions, is open to the public. It has a full bar and restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining facilities. Call (315) 697-9164.

National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. The baseball shrine is located in Cooperstown, which is just an hour car ride away. When leaving Canastota go east on the New York State Thruway to Exit 30, then take Route 28 south approximately 30 miles. Call: (607) 547-7200.

Visitors from the east or downstate shouldn't pass by the Howe Caverns without stopping in. Less than two hours from Canastota the caverns are one of the most visited tourist attractions -- and oddly enough, wedding sites -- in the state. Formed millions of years ago by an underground river after the great glaciers receded, Howe Caverns is a live cave filled with winding passageways and wonder every step of the way.
