VINNY PAZ & LEON SPINKS SCORE "KAYO" FOR HALL OF FAME
Paz & Spinks joined by Canastota's Basilio and Backus for "Night of Champions"
CANASTOTA, NY – NOVEMBER 19, 2004 - On November 18th, the International Boxing Hall of Fame hosted a "Night of Champions" featuring 5-time world champion Vinny Paz and heavyweight champion Leon Spinks at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. The fun-filled night was a "knockout" for all who attended.
"The Hall of Fame was thrilled to again host a 'Night of Champions,'" said Hall of Fame Executive Director Edward Brophy. "It was a memorable night for everyone."
Canastota's world champions, welterweight and middleweight Carmen Basilio and welterweight Billy Backus were also on hand for the festivities.
A capacity crowd of fans mingled with the boxing stars who graciously obliged photograph and autograph requests. The evening also included a buffet, silent and live auctions and fight highlights of the celebrity guests.
Also, the 2004 Central New York Boxing Appreciation Award was presented to referee Bob Fenocchi of Syracuse for his contribution to the sport of boxing in Central New York.
