BOXING'S BIGGEST CELEBRATION PLANNED FOR
23rd ANNUAL HALL OF FAME WEEKEND, JUNE 7-10TH

Hearns, Johnson, Hagler, Leonard, Buffer, Roach, Bernstein, Ward
among boxing stars to attend

  CANASTOTA, NY - JUNE 7, 2012 - - The opening bell will ring today for the 23rd Annual Hall of Fame Induction Weekend, June 7-10th. A huge gathering of boxing legends of yesterday and today has been assembled to participate in festivities in Canastota.






















“The Hall of Fame Weekend is boxing's highlight weekend of the year. In Canastota, boxing fans can mingle with an incredible roster of boxing legends and celebrate the great sport,” said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. "The Hall of Fame Weekend is for anyone who loves the sport of boxing."

The four-day celebration will officially begin with the opening ceremony at 5 p.m. today on the Hall of Fame grounds. The weekend will also feature over twenty events including ringside lectures, banquet, golf tournament, 5K Race / Fun Run, the Parade of Champions and the Official Induction Ceremony on Sunday, June 10th at 2:30 p.m.

Living inductees to be honored at the Official Induction Ceremony on Sunday, June 10th are multi-division champion Thomas “Hitman” Hearns, two-division champion Mark “Too Sharp” Johnson, “Let’s Get Ready To Rumble” ring announcer Michael Buffer, trainer Freddie Roach, broadcaster Al Bernstein and journalist Michael Katz.  Posthumous inductees will also be honored.

“The Village of Canastota and the Hall of Fame organization looks forward to welcoming boxing fans and from around the world for the annual celebration of the ‘sweet science,’” said Brophy.

Over 40 boxing stars of yesterday and today, including Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Ruben Olivares, Aaron “The Hawk” Pryor, Terry Norris, Micky Ward, Sugar Ray Seales, Michael Moorer, Ray Mercer, Chuck Wepner, Gerry Cooney and John “The Beast” Mugabi will participate in the festivities.

Grand marshal of the Parade of Champions, scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 10th, is Heisman Trophy winner and Super Bowl XXI MVP Desmond Howard.
