JULIAN "THE HAWK" JACKSON TO BE IN
CANASTOTA FOR 2013 HALL OF FAME WEEKEND
CANASTOTA, NY - JANUARY 30, 2013 - - The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced two-division world champion Julian “The Hawk” Jackson will make his first trip to Canastota for the 24th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Weekend set for June 6-9th.
“Julian Jackson was one of boxing’s most dynamic punchers,” said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. “Boxing fans will really enjoy the opportunity to see ‘The Hawk’ in Canastota for the first time.” Born in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Jackson turned pro in 1981. During his career (1981-1998), he was a two-division champion, capturing both the WBA light middleweight and the WBC middleweight titles. “The Hawk” compiled a professional record of 55-6 and 49 of his wins came by way of knockout. Among those he scored victories over include Buster Drayton (TKO 3), Herol Graham (KO 4), Dennis Milton (KO 1), Thomas Tate (W 12) and Hall of Famer Terry Norris (TKO 2). “It’s a tremendous privilege for me to come to the Hall of Fame because I’ve heard about Canastota for so long. It’s an opportunity for me to be a part of something that is so vital to boxing today. I’m really excited to be there and looking forward to meeting the fans,” said Jackson. Events planned for the weekend include a banquet, a night of welterweight warriors, parade, golf tournament, boxing autograph card show, cocktail party and the Official Induction Ceremony honoring the Class of 2013. Inductees include two-division champion Arturo “Thunder” Gatti (posthumous), five-time world champion Virgil “Quicksilver” Hill and two-time light flyweight champion Myung-Woo Yuh in the Modern category; “Let’s Get It On” referee Mills Lane, ring announcer Jimmy Lennon, Jr. and journalist Colin Hart. Posthumous inductees in the Old-Timer, Pioneer, Non-Participant and Observer categories will also be honored. An impressive list of over 40 boxing greats from the United States and abroad are scheduled to participate in weekend festivities.
