      CANASTOTA, NY - MARCH 23, 2017 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced today former heavyweight champion Riddick “Big Daddy” Bowe will be among returning Hall of Famers attending festivities planned for the 2017 Hall of Fame Induction Weekend June 8-11th.

“Riddick Bowe provided so many exciting and memorable moments during his championship career and is a real fan favorite,” said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. “We are thrilled to welcome him back as a Hall of Famer to ‘Boxing’s Hometown’ for the 2017 weekend festivities.”

From Brooklyn, NY, Bowe turned pro in 1989 under the tutelage of Eddie Futch. During his career he reigned as world heavyweight champion (WBC 1992, IBF/WBA 1992-1993, WBO 1995-96). Bowe compiled a 43-1 (33 KOs) record that includes wins over Bert Cooper, Bruce Seldon, Herbie Hide, Tony Tubbs and Michael Dokes. “Big Daddy” engaged in an epic trilogy with 2017 Hall of Fame inductee Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield (2-1). Named 1992’s “Fighter of the Year,” Bowe retired in 2008 and was elected into the Hall of Fame in 2015.

Events planned for the weekend include a Friday Night Fiesta, banquet, parade, golf tournament, boxing autograph card show, cocktail party and the Official Induction Ceremony honoring the Class of 2017.

The Class of 2017 includes Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield, Marco Antonio Barrera, Johnny “Mi Vida Loca” Tapia, Eddie Booker, trainer Johnny Lewis, ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Sr., judge Jerry Roth, journalist / broadcaster Steve Farhood and broadcaster Barry Tompkins.

An impressive list of over 35 boxing greats from the United States and abroad are scheduled to participate in weekend festivities.
