TO ATTEND 2020 HALL OF FAME WEEKEND

2020 Hall of Fame Weekend set for June 11-14th 

CANASTOTA, NY - FEBRUARY 12, 2020 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced today two-division world champion Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton will attend the 2020 Hall of Fame Weekend scheduled for June 11-14th in “Boxing’s Hometown”    





















The pride of Manchester, England, Hatton turned pro in 1997 and won world titles in two weight divisions. He reigned as both junior welterweight (WBU 2001-05, IBF 2005-06, 2007, WBA 2005-06) and welterweight (WBA 2006) champion. "The Hitman” holds wins over Freddie Pendleton, Eamonn Magee, Vince Phillips, Ben Tackie, Jose Luis Castillo, Juan Lazcano, Paulie Malignaggi and Hall of Famer Kostya Tszyu. Hatton, who was named 2005’s “Fighter of the Year” and received the MBE in 2007 for services to sport, retired in 2012 with a record of 45-3, (32 KOs). In retirement, Hatton has remained active in the sweet science as a promoter and trainer. 

“Ricky Hatton brought so much excitement to the 140 and 147 pound divisions during his championship career and electrified fight fans around the world with his crowd-pleasing style,” said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. “The Hall is truly excited that he will travel from England to be in Canastota for the 2020 festivities.”


Many events in “Boxing’s Hometown” of Canastota throughout the four-day celebration are planned, including a 5K Race / Fun Run, golf tournament, boxing autograph card show, VIP Cocktail Reception, Parade of Champions and the Official Induction Ceremony on the Hall of Fame Museum Grounds. The Hall of Fame Weekend evening events include Friday night’s Fight Night at Turning Stone and Saturday’s Banquet of Champions. Both events will take place at Turning Stone Resort Casino.








The Class of 2020 includes boxers Bernard Hopkins, Juan Manuel Marquez, “Sugar” Shane Mosley, Frank Erne, Paddy Ryan, Barbara Buttrick, “The Coal Miner’s Daughter” Christy Martin and “The Dutch Destroyer” Lucia Rijker; promoters Lou DiBella, Kathy Duva and Dan Goossen; and journalists Bernard Fernandez and Thomas Hauser

An impressive list of over 35 boxing greats from the United States and abroad, including junior welterweight star "Irish" Micky Ward and junior flyweight champions Michael "Little Hands of Stone" Carbajal and Humberto "Chiquita" Gonzalez, will participate in the Hall of Fame Weekend celebration.
