FOR ASSISTANCE RECOVERING STOLEN BELTS

Reward being offered for recovery

CANASTOTA, NY - NOVEMBER 11, 2015 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame is asking the boxing community for assistance into the investigation of six stolen championship belts, four won by Carmen Basilio and two won by Tony Zale.

There has been an active, ongoing investigation since early morning November 5th led by the Canastota Police Department. Canastota Police Chief Jim Zophy has involved other law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, to assist in the investigation.

“The boxing community is a close-knit family who care deeply for the sport. We are asking the boxing community and the entire sports world to provide any information that may be helpful in the return of these belts,” said Hall of Fame Executive Director Edward Brophy. 

The Boxing Hall of Fame is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual (s)  who stole the six championship belts, together with the return of these belts.
