Congratulations to Canastota’s former welterweight contender Dickie DiVeronica, who was elected into the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame. DiVeronica was honored at the Induction Dinner on April 28, at Russo’s On The Bay in Howard Beach, New York.


DiVeroncia, who who boxed from 1958-1972, posted a pro record of 42-13-1 (11 KOs) that includes wins over Jay Fullmer, Pete Toro and “Sweet” Herbie Lee among others. A top ten rated welterweight, DiVeroncia also engaged in memorable bouts with Johnny Bizzarro, Jerry Pellegrini, Perecy Pugh and Hall of Famer Emile Griffith.

Canastota is well represented in the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame with five inductees from "Boxing's Hometown" honored - Carmen Basilio, Billy Backus, DiVeronica, Tony Graziano and Ed Brophy.
