PROFESSIONAL BOXERS TO BATTLE
AT THE NEW YORK STATE FAIR

FIGHT NIGHT SET FOR WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2ND

SYRACUSE, NY - JUNE 13, 2009 - - Some of the nation’s top fighters will square off during a professional boxing event at the Mohegan Sun Grandstand on Wednesday, Sept. 2, as part of the 2009 New York State Fair.  The evening will offer fans three main events and a full undercard of fights at a surprisingly affordable price.

"As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Hall of Fame, we are delighted to partner with the New York State Fair in hosting a night of professional boxing,” said Ed Brophy, executive director of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, the Fair’s partner in hosting the event. “With the combination of live boxing featuring many of the sport’s most popular fighters and celebrity boxing greats at ringside, it will surely be an exciting evening."

“This event is an exciting and affordable way to bring this classic sport to a fresh audience while giving Fairgoers an opportunity for yet another thrilling experience,” said State Fair Director Dan O’Hara. “Boxing has deep roots in New York State, and we are proud play a role in nurturing this tradition.”

The event was announced Saturday during the International Boxing Hall of Fame’s annual Banquet of Champions at the OnCenter in Syracuse.

Detailed information about the fighters who will be featured and the cost and availability of tickets will be provided during a formal news conference that will be held in the near future.

The Fair and the Hall of Fame are working with Classic Entertainment & Sports, a professional boxing promotion firm that has handled some of the sport’s greatest talent.

In addition to the professional matches, the Boxing Hall of Fame will host historic boxing celebrities willing to sign autographs and meet with fans at the grandstand.

Earlier this year, the Fair adjusted its traditional grandstand concert schedule in order to double the number of free concerts offered in Chevy Court. That created an opportunity to host alternative events like the Hall of Fame’s evening of boxing excitement. Events of some type will be held at the Mohegan Sun Grandstand during all nights of the Fair.

This year’s New York State Fair will run from Aug. 27 through Sept. 7.

To date, the 2009 grandstand concert schedule includes Kelly Clarkson with Gavin DeGraw on Thursday, Aug. 27; Kenney Chesney with Jake Owen on Friday, Aug. 28; Jeff Dunham on Sunday, Aug. 30; Motley Crue and the Crue Fest 2 Tour on Thursday, Sept. 3; Big & Rich with Candy Coburn on Friday, Sept. 4; and Kid Rock on Saturday, Sept. 5.

One more grandstand concert, for Saturday, Aug. 29, has yet to be announced.

Alternative events - in addition to boxing and the traditional Labor Day demolition derby – will be announced for Monday, Aug. 31; Tuesday, Sept. 1; and Sunday, Sept. 6. Access to these events will either be free with Fair admission, or substantially less than typical grandstand concert tickets.
