HALL OF FAME FLIES FLAGS AT HALF-STAFF FOR

BOOKING AGENT / MANAGER RAFAEL MENDOZA

CANASTOTA, NY - MARCH 10, 2018 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced its flags will fly at half-staff in memory of booking agent / manager Rafael Mendoza, who passed away on March 8th in Guadalajara, Mexico from lung cancer. He was 80.

“During his five plus decades in the sport, Rafael Mendoza was one of the most respected and accomplished people in the boxing world. His keen eye for talent was second to none,” said Hall of Fame Executive Director Edward Brophy. “The Hall of Fame offers our condolences to his family and joins the boxing community in mourning his passing.”

A former sportswriter, Mendoza advised 26 world champions including Gilberto Roman, Oscar Larios, Chango Carmona, Javier Jauregui, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Hall of Famers Miguel Canto, Humberto “Chiquita” Gonzalez, Daniel Zaragoza, Alexis Arguello and Pipino Cuevas. Mendoza has also worked with Hall of Fame trainers Eddie Futch, Amilcar Brusa and Nacho Beristain, as well as many leading promoters including Bob Arum’s Top Rank and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.

In 2015, Mendoza was elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
