WBC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH BETWEEN

DEONTAY WILDER AND LUIS ORTIZ WILL GO TO THE

INTERNATIONAL BOXING HALL OF FAME

CANASTOTA, NY - NOVEMBER 16, 2019 - On November 23rd, WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder will meet Luis “King Kong” Ortiz in a highly anticipated rematch at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The winner of the championship bout has agreed to donate the hand wraps worn in the fight to the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

The bout, which is promoted by BombZquad Promotions, TGB Promotions and Mayweather Promotions, will headline an all-action card presented by Premier Boxing Champions. The card will be televised live on FOX Sports PBC Pay Per View.

“Rematches, particularly those in the heavyweight division, have produced some of the most memorable moments in the history of the sport,” said Hall of Fame Executive Director Edward Brophy. “This bout has excitement and drama written all over it and should be a great night for the sport and for the history books.”

“We are thrilled that both fighters and their camps agreed that the hand wraps worn by the winner will go directly to the Hall of Fame for display in Canastota.”

The Hall of Fame displays hand wraps worn by fighters through the ages. Among those on display include Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Henry Armstrong, Willie Pep, Fritzie Zivic, Dick Tiger, Ken Overlin, Hector “Macho” Camacho, “The Pazmanian Devil” Vinny Paz, Johnny Tapia, Gervonta “Tank” Davis, Errol Spence Jr., Shawn Porter, David Benavidez and Anthony Dirrell. Boxing fans have a unique opportunity to enjoy seeing historic hand wraps on display in “Boxing’s Hometown.”

Unbeaten Wilder (41-0-1, 40 KOs) captured a bronze medal for the United States at the 2008 Olympic Games and will be making the 10th defense of his WBC championship. The explosive punching champion holds wins over Audley Harrison, Siarhei Liakhovich, Bermane Stiverne, Chris Arreola, Dominic Breazeale and Ortiz, who he stopped in 2018 via 10th round TKO.

A native of Cuba, the hard punching Ortiz (31-1, 26 KOs) now lives in Miami. During his career, he has registered wins over Travis Kauffman, Tony Thompson, Bryant Jennings, Monte Barrett, Razvan Cojanu and Christian Hammer. He was the WBA interim heavyweight champion from 2015-16

A not-for-profit organization, the International Boxing Hall of Fame opened to the public in 1989 in Canastota, New York and is located at Exit 34 of the New York State Thruway. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
