REMEMBERING LOUIS CURTIS
CANASTOTA, NY - NOVEMBER 2, 2026 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame joins the worldwide boxing community in mourning the loss of 1976 U.S. Olympic team member Louis Curtis, who passed away recently at the age of 71.
"Louis Curtis represented the United States so well as a member of the celebrated 1976 U.S. Olympic Team in Montreal,” said Hall director Edward Brophy. “We were saddened to learn the news of his passing and we offer our condolences to the Curtis family.”
Washington, DC’s Curtis was the United States 106-pound light flyweight representative at the 1976 Olympic Games. Following the Games, he boxed professionally from 1983-1992 and compiled a 15-6-1, 7 KOs record that included bouts with Orlando Canizales, Kelvin Seabrooks and Reginald Brown. In 1988 he captured the USBA flyweight title.
Curtis visited Canastota in 2006 and 2016 when the Hall of Fame reunited the iconic team to celebrate their 30th and 40th anniversaries respectively.
“It was an honor for the Hall of Fame to welcome Louis to Canastota with his Olympic teammates to celebrate their incredible team,” said Brophy.
