HALL OF FAME FLIES FLAGS AT HALF-STAFF
FOR THREE-DIVISION CHAMPION MIKE MCCALLUM
CANASTOTA, NY - JUNE 2, 2025 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced its flags will fly at half-staff in memory of three-division world champion and Hall of Famer Mike McCallum who passed away Saturday at the age of 68.
“A national hero in Jamaica, McCallum was one of boxing’s most accomplished world champions and his incredible skills thrilled fans around the world,” said Executive Director Edward Brophy. “The Hall of Fame offers our condolences to the McCallum family and joins the boxing world in mourning his passing.”
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, McCallum compiled an impressive amateur record of 240-10 and represented Jamaica as a welterweight at the 1976 Olympic Gamed. He turned pro in 1981 and won world championships in three weight divisions – junior middleweight, middleweight and light heavyweight. Nicknamed “The Body Snatcher” for his fierce body attack, he defeated Milton McCrory, Herol Graham, Steve Collins, Jeff Harding and Hall of Famers Julian Jackson, Donald Curry among others. McCallum retired in 1997 with a record of 49-5-1 (36 KOs).
In 2003, McCallum was elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
