HALL OF FAME FLAGS AT HALF-STAFF 
FOR BOXING JUDGE JERRY ROTH

CANASTOTA, NY DECEMBER 27, 2022 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced its flags will fly at half-staff in memory of boxing judge Jerry Roth, who passed away on December 23rd at the age of 81.  

























    “For over 30 years, Jerry Roth was one of boxing’s most respected judges. He officiated over 200 title bouts from ringside, including many legendary bouts involving the biggest names in the sport of boxing,” said Hall of Fame Executive Director Edward Brophy. “The Hall of Fame offers our condolences to the Roth family and joins the boxing world in mourning his passing.”

    Roth began working as a judge for the Nevada State Athletic Commission in 1980. Over the next three and a half decades he became one of boxing’s leading judges, officiating 225 world title bouts. Among the high profile bouts he was assigned included Larry Holmes vs. Gerry Cooney, Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Meldrick Taylor I, Johnny Tapia vs. Danny Romero, Evander Holyfield vs. George Foreman, Joe Calzaghe vs. Roy Jones Jr., Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley I, Marco Antonio Barrera vs. Erik Morales III, Lennox Lewis vs. Evander Holyfield II and the Riddick Bowe vs. Evander Holyfield trilogy. Roth judged his last contest in 2015, the WBO featherweight title bout between Vasyl Lomachenko and Gamalier Rodriguez in Las Vegas. 

    In 2017, Roth was elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
